This talk will examine how the challenges of biodiversity conservation, forest restoration and sustainability are being tackled by an international group of students, researchers and volunteers located in the forested mountains of Minas Gerais.
Come hear about the Iracambi Rainforest Research Center, a place that attracts people from around the world who come together to tackle the tough challenges of protecting our biodiversity and living sustainably. We do this through a program of research, education and practical hands-on projects in reforestation, community action and public policy. Our vision is to see the beautiful Atlantic Forest restored with prosperous communities living in a flourishing landscape, and we know it's possible because we are doing it. We'd love to share some of our story and hear your thoughts!
Iracambi President Binka Le Breton co-directs the Iracambi Rainforest Research Center, where people come from across the world to tackle some of the toughest issues of our time: how to protect our planet before it is too late, how to offset some of the effects of climate change, and how to live abundantly and sustainably.
Binka started life as a concert pianist, is a climate leader out of conviction, a passionate environmentalist, and a successful author and speaker on the international lecture circuit. She is also a visiting educator on Peace Boat. Binka speaks five languages and is tackling her sixth: Japanese. Currently she is working as a producer on a feature film based on one of her books, ‘The Greatest Gift,” which tells the story of American nun Dorothy Stang whose 2005 murder in the Amazon forest aroused international outrage.
